Welcome to Salisbury Maryland, located on Maryland's Eastern Shore in the heart of Chesapeake country on the Delmarva Peninsula.
The Salisbury and Wicomico County area is home to a diverse economic base. Commerce activity includes an advanced health care system and trauma center, agribusiness, microwave electronics, and other manufacturing and distribution industries. Over 2,300 businesses employ over 35,000 workers.
The overall County population is in excess of 85,000 people. Due to our central location, the regional population and retail trade area exceeds 250,000. Salisbury was recently designated a Metropolitan Planning Area by the US Census Bureau.
The area is also home to three major institutions of higher education. Salisbury University and The University of Maryland Eastern Shore offer four year and advanced degrees. Wor Wic Community College offers a multitude of two year and specialized job training programs. Wor Wic is one of the fastest growing community colleges in the US with over 3,000 students.
Some of the more notable employers include Perdue Farms, Tishcon Laboratories, Maxum Marine, K&L Microwave, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and Salisbury University.
Transportation systems serving the region are excellent. The Salisbury Wicomico County Regional Airport is serviced by US Airways with daily non stop service to Philadelphia, Washington, and Charlotte. US Rt 50 and Rt 13 intersect in Salisbury making highway transportation easy in all directions. The Port of Salisbury is Maryland's second largest port. We are only a 2-3 hour drive from Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia and Norfolk.
